Horseback Riding in Obergurgl-Hochgurgl

Conquer the mountain with one horsepower

High up in the Ötztal Alps' mountains you probably expect sheep, goats and marmots. Even true mountain aficionados and newly arrived guests marvel at a rider and his horse. Just like the native alpine inhabitants, the robust Haflinger breed feels equally at home on Alpine meadows, steep paths and forest roads around Obergurgl-Hochgurgl. Thanks to a modern indoor riding arena in the village center and a variety of horseback riding trails in the mountains, horse lovers can discover another splendid facet of the Diamond of the Alps.

Riding hall in Obergurgl

In Obergurgl horseback riding enthusiasts have the opportunity to fulfill their passion during their holiday. The centrally located indoor riding arena is available for training units all year round on advance booking. Built according to international guidelines, the 800 square meter hall is also suitable for tournaments and meets all requirements for perfectly equipped training units. Tirolean Haflinger horses (about 15 horses in winter, 4 to 6 horses in summer) from the Scheiber family's breeding, the operators of the riding hall, are available for riding lessons. Two experienced riding instructors offer lessons for beginners or all those who want to improve posture and technique. In addition to guided lessons for all ages, the riding hall can also be used for lunge lessons (from 8 years onwards) or show jumping training units.

Excursions on horseback

The horse trekking tours lead through mountain meadows and green forests, always overlooking the highest summits of the Ötztal Alps. At a comfortable pace, then a bit faster, you explore the Alpine terrain on forest roads continuing further up to high Alpine meadows. Short excursions for experienced riders are available daily in the summer months (about 30-45 min), longer trekking rides are offered twice a week (1.5-2 hours) for up to six persons on advance booking.
