Cross-border public transport

From mid-June to mid-September the Timmelsjoch hiking bus travels from Obergurgl in Ötztal to St. Leonhard in Passeiertal (South Tyrol/Italy) and back again four times a day. Thanks to this public bus line varied excursion and hiking destinations in the area surrounding Timmelsjoch can be reached in an environmental friendly and flexible way, even free of charge for Ötztal Inside Summer Card holders.

Get off and start your hike

Walkers, hikers and mountaineers enjoy the convenient Timmel Bus line to get to the high-altitude starting points of their tours. In the 2019 summer, the bus leaves in the front village area of Obergurgl (behind Hotel Hochfirst). A popular stop is the "Smuggler" monument which is part of the unrivaled Timmelsjoch Drive at the junction of the road and hiking trails. On the state border, not only a visit to the Pass Museum but also a detour to the stone cairns on the pass height is worthwhile. The splendid loop walking tour to lake Kummersee - 3 to 4 hours are required for this walking tour - starts (and ends) at this bus stop. The bus riding time from Gurgl to the highest point at Timmelsjoch is about 30 minutes.
