Slope ski touring route

Ötztal's 1st slope ski touring route

Ochsengarten - Hochoetz

Starting right at the base station of Ochsengarten Mountain Gondola, you follow the signs towards a groomed forest trail west of ski piste 09. A pleasant ascent along this forest route takes you back to the ski slope after about 20 minutes. Always ascending on the right edge of the ski run, you will reach a turn-off on the ski slope towards a signposted forest path after another 20 minutes. Away from the hustle and bustle of the ski slope, you can also climb comfortably next to each other while enjoying a nice chat among friends. A flat section followed by a slight uphill stretch, you reach ski slope 05 in about half an hour. Then you cross the ski run at a clear point in order to continue up the forest trail. After a few hundred meters and the first hairpin bend, you get to the edge of the ski run but continue to follow the forest path and only get back to the piste in the upper part of the ascent route. From here it's only a few altitude meters and about 20-30 ski touring minutes to the destination at the Hochoetz water reservoir and top station. Both the Panorama Restaurant and Kristall Bar make two perfect places to stop for refreshments.

Very pleasant ascent amidst fabulous winter landscapes plus awe-inspiring panoramic views in the upper part of the route. Most of the ski touring track is off-piste on signposted forest paths. Then you ski downhill on the ski run.

Directly at the valley station of the Ochsengartenbahn, follow the signs onto the prepared forest road west of ski slope 09. With a pleasant incline, you reach the ski slope again after about 20 minutes along this forest road. Always ascending along the right edge of the slope, you reach a junction from the ski slope onto the marked forest path after about another 20 minutes. Away from the slope hustle and bustle, you can also climb up here comfortably side by side while chatting. First flat, then slightly ascending, you reach ski slope 05 in about half an hour. This is crossed at a clear spot to continue ascending via the forest path. After a few hundred meters and a first switchback, you reach the edge of the slope, but continue to follow the forest path and only return to the ski slope in the upper third of the ascent route. From here, a few altitude meters and about 20-30 minutes of walking time lead to the destination at the Hochoetz reservoir pond and mountain station.
